Michael Kiley Most Impressive Performer at New York Prep Track Championships

Chaminade senior Michael Kiley High School ran the 3000 meters steeplechase in 9:13.92 at the 2009 New York State Track and Field Championship meet to set a new time national leader. Kiley joined the other in New York several times the national leader as a winner in the meet when Suffern senior Shelby Greany won the 2000 steeplechase in 6:36.90. Greany had established its national leader in a time 6:33.7 earlier this year. The national leader from New York, Benjamin Cardozo High School in Men's 4 x 400 (3:39.96), could lower his mark in the state meet in Hempstead won in 3:50:59, with Charlene Lipsey, Donna Lee Hylton and Velma Morant Asheka Gibson. Lipsey also won the 800 in 2:08.67. Junior Alex Hatz of Fayetteville-Manlius establish a new state meet record of 4:06:11 in 1600 children, and senior Jeff Martinez, Johnson City pulled off a surprise by defeating Chris Stogsdill of Marcellus to win the 3200 in 8:57.60. It is a victory for the return of Hatz; Stogsdill came out fast and finished 4th in 9:08.84, also beaten by John Mueller of Arlington (9:00.60) and Scott Anderson of East Aurora (9:03.91). The coexistence of two different states of the winners of the championship are noteworthy. Sophomore Chamique Francis Cardozo was 53.42 in the 400, and 4 x 800 relay Shenendehowa Danika Simonson, Alex Burtnik, Cara Janeczko and Lizzie Predmore time ran 9:01:00. Shenendehowa is important because it is only a 93-hundred more slowly than the national leader of Colorado, Valle Torres (9:00.07), and Burtnik is a sophomore and a freshman Predmore. Ptrignelli Megan Monroe-Woodbury won the 1,500 in 4:25.65, the 3rd largest fastest time this season. There were two double winners among samples of the girl. Sophomore Ashley Fields of Amherst won the 100 (11.85) and 200 (23.66) and junior Melissa Kurzdorfer of Lancaster won the shot put (48-03) and disc (158-09).
