England's World Cup Foundation For Failure

Isuspect few tears were shed as head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson left his post with the England football team. Well, except perhaps for the great Phil Scholari who had just driven his third consecutive victory against the Swedish relaxed tournament. Eriksson has had his critics during his five years with England reign, engineering time and again to confuse some baffling decisions not only fans but the players themselves. England lost last stretches back to the day before Eriksson announced his squad for the World Cup to a nation lost. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but even then the eyebrows raised at the choice of only four strikers to attack our world the glory. The disbelief was compounded by the fact two forwards (Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen), returning from injury are not yet ready. Having said Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips was not in the team because of a limited number of fixtures in the Premiership, Sven proceeded to gather incredibly Arsenal's Theo Walcott, a player's inexperience as there was only made an appearance in the first team Arsenal. Election of the fourth and last was Peter Crouch, a player of that goal nearly a prolific scoring ability Christmas before breaking his duck for the season at Liverpool. Michael Owen following the injury and the subsequent departure of the World Cup, Eriksson decided to attack England's best option was to play Wayne Rooney as a lone striker. as our only real world class footballer, Rooney has been wasted in a role that was waiting for him to run like a madman chasing balls all game in the heat and humidity. The lack of support inevitably led to frustration for Rooney, ending with his red card and left England. Rooney is in top form terrible to play off a front man defense and run the ball. England fans can only hope and pray that the new boss Steve McClaren appreciates this and play to our strengths.
